McKissick, Pye Recognized by Citadel

Dorchester Two educators recognized by military college.

Two Dorchester County educators and Summerville’s legendary high school football coach are inductees into The Citadel School of Education Wall of Fame, which honors those who have distinguished themselves as outstanding educators or champions of education. 

The induction is Sept. 20 at the military college.

The 2012 inductees from Dorchester Two are:

  • Dorchester County District Two Superintendent Joseph R. Pye, the 2012 South Carolina Superintendent of the Year
  • Sean Alford, Citadel Class of 1992, the new assistant superintendent of curriculum and instruction for Dorchester District Two
  • Summerivlle High Coach John McKissick, the legendary coach of the Green Wave.  

West Ashley High STEM Educator Margaret Spigner will also be inducted.

"The accomplishments of the 2012 Wall of Fame honorees illustrate the School of Education’s leadership and support of The Citadel’s strategic initiative to provide outreach to the region and to serve as a resource in its economic development,” said Tony Johnson, dean of The Citadel School of Education.

The fifth annual School of Education Wall of Fame banquet begins at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, at the Charleston Marriott Hotel, 170 Lockwood Blvd. The awards banquet is open to the public. Tickets are $50 a person and can be purchased by calling Julie Bender at 843-953-5097. Deadline to purchase tickets is Monday, Sept. 10.
