Occupiers Glitter-Bomb Santorum Concession Speech

Gay rights activists and Occupy Charleston chant 'Rick, Rick, Rick, bigot, bigot, bigot.'

THE CITADEL — About 20 demonstrators crashed the Rick Santorum results party at the military college in Charleston.

As Santorum closed his speech focusing on building strong family values, a gay rights activist said: "Except when you're gay" and threw a handful of glitter in the air.

Members of the Occupy Charleston group joined in with chants of "Rick, Rick, Rick, bigot, bigot, bigot" and singing "Santorum, Santorum, you're a bigot." As police escorted the group out, they shouted about Jesus preaching love.

The police escorted many members of the movement off-campus and would not allow them to retreive their vehicles parked there. But there were no arrests or incidents.

Speaking to Patch, Occupier Adrianna Varedi of Charleston said the party crash was "the people of South Carolina taking a stand against" bigotted behavior against gays and blacks.

Santorum is known for his position on gay rights, in opposition to gay marriage and likening gay sex to beastiality with previous remarks.

Why didn't Santorum mention something about these idiot people making a scene? Those Democrats should stay out of GOP Primary celebrations. Go demonstrate in front of the White House.... that's where the problem lies.

So, you are saying that these people do not have the constitutional right to voice their opinion in public because they are not republicans?

ah, norman... here i find you again... your sexual orientation has nothing to do with your responses on here... whether you are gay or straight or nothing... you are one angry person... there are correct channels for that also in getting help for anger management... i am assuming you are young, at least in maturity... your reply... of why don't you just hurry up and die old lady... or something along that line... tells me that anyone else having an opinion makes you horribly angry... yep... get some help my friend...

Occupy Charleston holds a community meal on the Eastside every Sunday, feeding hundreds of people, and have done so for several months. They have also donated food to Crisis Ministries and the Lowcountry Food Bank. They have also participated in events like Christmas parties in impoverished communities, where an OCcupier played Santa Clause and gave gifts to dozens of children. It seems, though, that the media finds that it's readership doesn't find any of that stuff interesting enough to print, even though our Community Meal is the only activity that we consistently participate in.

Yes Jesus preached about love.........BUT.......the gays need to read the first chapter of Romans, in the Bible, as well........name calling is political.......and goes with the territory........so the candidate standing by the personal beliefs , to me, is a sign of strength. Accept what is shown and move on........be a bigger person than stooping to childish name calling and throwing things!

Exactly... so many that get into groups such as Occupy Charleston are only rebels who go from one "cause" to another... not really having any other desire than to be in a rebel action... please, grow up!

Randy, Perhaps you should also read the SECOND chapter of Romans - you know, the one that warns that "as harshly as you judge others, so will YOU be judged."

Do you people really think "being gay" is a choice? So left me see if I understand this. Having an abortion is wrong even if the fetus has no gender but the death penalty is ok even when innocent men die. You believe god created everything and everyone, yet "gay" people are also part of his creation. Can anyone reasonably argue this....?

Gay people should be afforded all the rights of married couples thru CIVIL UNIONS. I believe a marriage is between a MAN and a WOMAN. I think you are right about "gay people" not chosing to be gay and therefore they were created by God this way. I don't undertand why the CHURCH treats gays the way they do.

don't care to argue it... nor do i want to have anyone throw their sexual orientation down my throat... i don't go around talking about my sex life, nor what happens behind my home doors... why should i have to listen to what should be a private matter... i don't care what you are or what you do... that's very personal and should remain personal...

The reason we (should) value the separation of church and state is to ensure that government never persecutes any portion of its citizens based on their religion. Expanding that idea, nobody should ever be persecuted by government based on the RELIGIOUS VIEWS/BELIEFS of any member of that government. Therefor, when you elect a candidate who plans to use the Bible as a major plank of their platform- you enter the dangerous realm of a Theocracy, which is exactly what Iran is. Santorum is a Christian fundamentalist, Iran is Muslim fundamentalist. Opposite ends of the spectrum, but fundamentalist nonetheless. Government is best when it stays out of people's personal lives.

Why all the hate? The "glitter bomb" should be arrested for assault as that is what it is. It wasn't "speech", it was assault if not battery. All the gay marriage debate is easy enough. The federal government should not be in the "marriage" business at all. Why in the world should "We the people" have to bow before anyone to profess our love for one another? Who appointed them God(dess)? So I am to allow Bill Clinton or Newt Gingrich, et. al. to give me permission to love who I desire?

Get the government completely out of the love business and I can assure you the republic will not fall. Give them more power and it most assuredly will.
