Officer Shoots Dog in Pine Forest
Summerville Police officer shoots one of two aggressive dogs in Pine Forest.
A Summerville Police officer shot a dog charging him in outside Pine Forest Country Club, according to a July 28 incident report.
Police were called to the neighborhood in reference to two aggressive dogs, described as "pit bulls," charging people who were playing tennis.
When the responding officer located the two dogs, one began barking aggressively, according to the report. The officer called dispatch to advise animal control of the situation.
According to the report, the dark brown dog then ran towards the officer and the officer began backing up slowly. The officer reported that the dog continued to charge. Unable to make it to his patrol car, the officer shot the dog after it charged him again and was within four feet of the officer, according to the report.
The injured dog ran off past the driving range, into the woodline and was not found, according to the report. The other dog was located and picked up by animal control after use of a tranquilizer gun.

Ya know, I thought officers were supposed to be brave, innovative and compassionate. Are they gonna shoot the next mentally challenged person who 'charges' them? And stop trying to find a wounded person who 'ran into the woodline' after being shot by them? Shame on you, SPD - I'm embarrassed to have been a member of this department.

Im embarrassed to have known you were ever a member, you should have dismissed. Anyone who puts aggressive animals above human life is just plan
out of touch ! YOU did the right thing Officer ! Thank you for protecting the people
who could have been mauled by these two aggressive animals !

Seriously? It as either his life or the dog...I would choose human life over an aggressive dog! After recently being chased by a pit bull it is a scary feeling...proud of this Officer! Shame on you for your mean spirited comment!

I'm concerned that unstable/unlogical Sharon Thompson may still be on a police force. Comparing a dog to a person...really?!? Perhaps a little 72 hour evaluation for Sharon might be in order?

And posted with her full name. Sharon, you're an idiot. Should I thank you for deciding to no longer serve my community or someone else for deciding you would no longer serve my community.

I would like to note that the officer shot to injure not kill. Despite feeling threatened & in possible danger, he aimed so as not to kill. That is showing compassion! He was faced with a horrible decision for anyone to make.
