The country's first golf course was built in 1786 in Charleston.

There are more than 350 golf courses around the state, according to a 2006 tourism report, giving South Carolina the highest number of holes per capita in the country.

National golf magazines often tout the Palmetto State's great "green" offerings.

We love our golf.

But where should we go?

Do we head to the little Par-3 around the corner, the easy-going municipal course or the immaculate country club?

We want to know where your favorite place to walk or ride on a cool Saturday morning in Goose Creek, Mount Pleasant, Summerville or West Ashley. It has to be in one of our Patches to be eligible to win.

Vote in the poll above for your favorite course in our "Best Golf Course" Readers Choice competition. Nominations ended July 9. Winners will be announced in August.

Don't just vote, tell us why you picked your favorite in the comments. If your favorite isn't on the list, throw them a shout out in the comments below.

Crowfield Golf & Country Club is the best! The staff are great, the course is challenging but fun. The ladies group is also one of the best.

Legend Oaks has the best Lowcountry layout, the course is in great condition, and the staff is always welcoming and friendly! The senior and men's golf groups are great fun as well.

I nominate "Westcott Golf Club". With it's 3 different 9's and great crew, the course is always in excellent shape. Plus I have played a lot of others mentioned here but the cart paths are the smoothest around at Wescott. Greens are Puttable and fairways are forever beautiful.

I like Legend Oaks for many reasons. The course and the grounds are so beautiful. The staff always makes me feel welcome. They offer events all through the year for Golfers where you can golf and engage in friendships that last beyond the course. I enjoy the food at the Biestro. They really offer the whole package. Definately my course of choice.

For my experience it's Wescott. Nice facility, parking, bag drop, "new" golf cars, "new" range balls, great staff, and the course is in excellent playing shape.
