Republicans Head to the Polls Again Tuesday
The Republican Special Primary for S.C. Senate District 41 is Tuesday
The S.C. Senate District 41 race has turned into a big second chance for three Republicans.
Republican voters will head back to the voting booths Tuesday for a do-over primary for the S.C. Senate District 41 seat. Polls are open 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. (make sure you know where to vote).
Three candidates filed for the seat. Sen. Walter Hundley, who currently holds the seat, having won his own special election to finish out Glenn McConnell's term, will face Paul Thurmond and Wally Burbage.
Hundley beat Burbage in a primary for the special election, and Burbage found himself decertified from the earlier primary ballot for the Senate 41 seat by the S.C. Supreme Court decisions that tossed about 200 candidates from ballots across the state. Thurmond was the only candidate not decertified by election day in that primary race, but a judge's ruling decertified him after the fact.
That same judge's ruling also directed the Charleston County Republican Party to hold a new primary to find a replacement candidate. The ruling allowed previously decertified candidates to run for the nomination again, setting the stage for a rematch of sorts.
The District 41 lines were redrawn for the 2012 election, taking in eight precincts in Dorchester County and shifting within Charleston County to take in Thurmond's residence (click here for Dorchester County voting information). Hundley and Burbage have run against each other, and Burbage and Thurmond have appeared on the same ballot (though Burbage had been decertified, his name still appeared on the primary ballot), but Hundley and Thurmond have yet to face off.
Initially Hundley did not file to run for full term for the District 41 seat. But after the Supreme Court rulings and the lawsuit brought against Thurmond by George Tempel, Hundley embarked on a petition campaign to appear on the general election ballot, though he fell short of the required number of signatures.

Has the State Supreme Court issued their ruling yet (it's expected today) on whether tomorrow's primary do-over is ok? It's hardly fair for this race to have a do-over but none of the others.
