Rose Dubbed 'Taxpayer Hero'
Sen. Mike Rose only Summerville legislator to make the Taxpayer Hero designation for his voting record; three make Taxpayer Nightmare list.
Conservative political action committee S.C. Club for Growth has named 43 state legislators "Taxpayer Heroes," including Summerville's Sen. Mike Rose.
Eight state senators and 35 state representatives made the list. Rose, R-Dorchester, is the only legislator from the Summerville area to make the Taxpayer Hero designation. Heroes received an A or B from the organization for their voting record.

The same organization listed 101 "Taxpayer Nightmares," which included Sen. Paul Campbell, R-Berkeley, who represents portions of Summerville; Rep. Jenny Horne, R-Dorchester; and Rep. Patsy Knight, D-Dorchester. Taxpayer Nightmares are those who received a D or F for their voting record.
Rep. Joe Daning, R-Berkeley, who also represents portions of Summerville, and Rep. Chris Murphy, R-Dorchester, both received a C for their voting records.
See the scorecards in full attached to this story.
The designations were released on Nov. 30.
Scorecard ratings (here) are based on 38 pro-growth and government reform votes taken since January 2011. The House of Representatives had 16 scored votes and the Senate had 12. The votes scored were taken from the best version of the bill or from an amendment that would have strengthened the bill. Scores are given on a scale of 0 to 100 with each vote assigned a certain number of points, depending on its relative importance to the organization.
"The scorecards are a valuable tool for Club for Growth members and South Carolina voters," Club Chairman Bill McAfee said. "Taxpayers … can’t watch every vote on every bill, but this scorecard gives them the opportunity to see if their legislator is just giving them lip service or really fighting for good government and pro-growth legislation."
All of the Summerville legislators are up for reelection in 2012.

"The scorecards are a valuable tool for Club for Growth members" - that sums it up pretty well right there. That organization is an open supporter of Marxist economics, which defeats capitalism and small business; has been fined multiple times for illegal campaign tactics; refuses to identify where it gets its money; and attacks any candidate that won't be brainwashed with their freakish economic policies. Any Republican who won't do exactly what they say will get a D or F, so I have to say I have newfound respect Jenny Horne. They have no relevance to taxpayers, only tax cheaters. Sad to see Rose got bought off once again, like he's done so many times taking money from the folks who want to end all public schools in our state.

This is absurd. This is a far right libertarian scorecard. They want to basically eliminate State Government. We need strong leaders like Patsy Knight who will make state government work, with a balanced budget. Do you want first class public schools? Medical care for the elderly? Infrastructure supported?? This is what business needs to grow -- ask them!

Mike Rose is the only conservative on that list. The others, even the republicrats, do what they are told in my opinion. Mike Rose thinks for himself, asks people what they think and seems to care about the answers. I'm told Rose tries to get to the bottom of issues & if people question his vote, he will look into why they think that way. If Horne & Murphy tried that, they might not be viewed as pawns & puppets of the state GOP club.

Mike Rose has done nothing but serve his own needs. Look at all the public committee appointments he's blocked and kept on the side. We don't have a county election commission, because he doesn't want to approve appointment of people who didn't vote for him. He blocked reappointment of small court judges who didn't endorse him in 2008. Add in the money he took from the one guy in Philadelphia (who wants public school funds to go solely to private schools), and it seems pretty apparent that Mike Rose is just another "show me the money" politician. BTW, Ken - you object to elected officials doing "what they are told" to do? Remember, guy - they're *supposed* to do what *voters tell them to* - that's what they're job is. Rose is only doing what his donors tell him to do. And that makes him a crook, in my book.

@reg "Mike Rose has done nothing but serve his own needs..."
sadly this seems to be true of most (well all too many) politicians..."power corrupts, 'hints' of absolute power corrupts absolutely..."
has nothing to do with D/Rs, conservatives/liberals...GET MONEY OUT OF POLITICS...

By "doing what they are told to do" i am talking about the "party" not the voters. Perhaps you should read a comment thoroughly before responding.
I will agree that no politician is perfect, and i dont agree with Rose 100%, however, I disagree with Horne and Murphy far more and feel that they are part of a club whereas Rose is more of a self-made person. Hence the "scorecard results" show that Horne has a failing grade, and Rose does not. pretty clear evidence. I am not afraid of debate. I agree with Stanle about politicians in general, less is more.

Everything you find wrong with Murphy will you find wrong with Rose - only 10 times more so, and because Rose has done nothing other than what his major (and out of state) donors told him to do. He's no representative; he's a patsy for campaign donations. That "Score Card" is created by the same organization that's been repeatedly fined for attempting to hide its behind-closed-doors campaign donation scams. And how can you call Rose "self-made"? He was *tax payer* made - his law school tuition (and we know how much that costs, right?) was paid for by ....who? *US* dammit! And what is he doing with the education that you and I paid for? *He's doing what his out-of-state campaign donors are telling him to do!* And that makes him the same as 99.95 % of all SC GOP right now - a plutocratic dictator doing serving his corporate donors and ignoring the public. ...at least you and I agree about Murphy (who's also getting his money from the same guy in Philadelphia that Rose is...)

Reiteration: At least Rose listens to the people, and i know this to be true.
The point here was actually to ostracize the others leaving Rose at the top of the list. Keep the perspective on that. When Horne got elected, she and Young were like siamese twins. I woulndt be surprised if she isnt on the phone getting orders everyday. Murphy did not get elected by being a go-to super guy. My general opinion is that we could get rid of 75% of all of them and do much better.

Wow! Rose listens to *YOU"!!!!! you lucky dog...because he ain't listening to anyone else. **HE ONLY LISTENS TO HIS DONORS, MOST OF WHOM DON'T LIVE HERE.** that's why he's had innerparty opponents for a couple of months now. He's scum; he takes thousands of illegal donations from one guy who tells him how to vote; and everything else he does is only to ensure his re-election (like blocking the election commission I referred to earlier). If you support Mike Rose - *THEN GET THE HELL OUT OF MY COUNTRY, YOU COMMUNIST* - move to North Korea, which is the breeding ground for idiots like him and his supporters. His communist principles and Marxist economic proposals have no place in America. And the same commie network donating to (and influencing) Rose is also the top donor to Chris Murphy (another Marxist/commie/plutocrat/anti-American scumbag). and if you'll support either of them (who are indistinguishable in their platforms and their votes) THEN GET OUT, COMMIE. My family settled here over 300 years ago to get away from freaks like you ... and Rose ... and Murphy. And we're not going anywhere else, and we're not giving in to commies like you. Get the hell out of our country, you communist, plutocratic, Marxist economist.

@Ken Williams "My general opinion is that we could get rid of 75% of all of them and do much better."
kinda agree...how do we determine the replacements (state and fed) will be any better...
on fed level...2010 most were replaced...where are the jobs...how many jobs have been created by their blocking BO's jobs legislation...
on state level...eg, the gov caved to creating jobs in savannah vice chas...
