Sexting Alleged at Ashley Ridge High

Incident reported to Dorchester County deputies details pay-for-text nude photograph of student.

A female student has alleged that a nude photograph of her was being circulated for pay at the school.

No suspects were arrested but the district spokeswoman Pat Raynor says discipline is determined by state law and a hearing, which considers past offenses as well.

"They handled it according to policy," Raynor said.

One of the alleged suspects is a former boyfriend. The incident report was made to Dorchester County Sheriff's Office March 7, and the student alleged the picture was being sold by cell phone for $2 per picture, according to the report.

According to the report, the former boyfriend showed the image to school administration after being confronted and then detailed who was involved. Another suspect admitted to purchasing a picture for $2, according to the report.

"It (sexting) occurs more frequently than what we know," district Safety & Security Coordinator Mike Turner said. "It's not so irregular."

Turner said that any illicit photos on a student's phone, distributed or not, is against district policy.
