Sweet: Friday Is National Donut Day

Get free donuts Friday.

It seems like there is a special day for just about everything these days and the donut is no exception.

National Donut Day is Friday and in honor of their big day, donut shops across the nation — including many in Summerville — will hand out free donuts to customers.

Dunkin' Donuts, one of the participating chains, has two Summerville locations: 2908 W. 5th North St. and 1518 North Main St.

The national day, always celebrated on the first Friday of June each year, was established in 1938 by the Chicago Salvation Army to honor women who served donuts to soldiers during World War I.
