Town Passes $24.8 Million Budget
No comment from public at Wednesday's meeting.
The Town of Summerville passed its 2012 Budget, which is available attached to this story and runs on a calendar year starting Jan. 1.
No person spoke during Wednesday's public hearing to discuss the budget.
Highlights:
- Real and personal property taxed at 62.4 mills to "defray" costs in the town operation.
- Solid waste collection is $8.50 per month for improved properties.
- Anticipated General Fund income and expenses are $24,814,410.
No fee or millage increases are on tap for 2012. Town employees also will not receive a cost-of-living increase.
However, five new positions will be created in 2012 — including two police officers.
The first reading took place in early November, and the town also passed a new budget policy, which sets aside funds for road projects and public safety.

Only a democrat would hail this fiasco. An 18.75% revenue shortfall made up with "Funds Transferred In", the over-stuffed reserve fund. That money should be returned to tax payers and the council then cut the fat out of the budget to balance it.
