Train Strikes, Kills Pedestrian in Summerville

Incident happened near Kapstone Tuesday afternoon.

A female pedestrian has died after being struck by the train running by between Aulds Lane and Cypress Street Tuesday afternoon, according to County EMS Director Douglas Warren. 

The location is near the Kapstone Paper Plant. As of 4 p.m., crossing over the tracks from Aulds Lane down to North Hickory Street was impeded by the sitting train. The train's engine had halted between Hickory Street and Cedar Street.

Warren said there were no other persons injured on the scene, and that only one person is involved in the deadly collision. The train's engineer had stopped the train after the incident to speak to authorities, Warren said. 

Dorchester County Coroner's Office and Summerville Police are investigating. As of 5 p.m. the victim had not been identified other than to say she was a white female.
