About 2,000 people attended FirstBeat, a Drum Corps competition, Monday evening at John McKissick Field.
The event was put on by Carolina Crown of Drum Corps International.
In tournaments throughout the nation, high school bands vie for the top spot. Monday's event had judges jotting notes on each performance.
The competition featured eight bands.
Competing corps included Boston Crusaders of Boston, Glassmen of Toledo, Ohio, Blue Knights of Denver, Madison Scouts of Madison, Wisc., Teal Sound of Jacksonville, Fla., Mandarins (in video) of Sacramento, Jersey Surf (in video) of Camden County, N.J., and Cascades of Seattle.
