Vacant lot faces rezoning at request of owners, but has neighbors in Indian Springs worried.

What should go in the space between the Bi-Lo shopping center and the Indian Springs subdivision on Boone Hill Road?
That was a question posed to Dorchester County Council last week, as the owner of the lot seeks to change the lot's zoning from R-4 to a zoning that would allow multi-family apartments.
Residents of Indian Springs came to the council meeting to protest the rezoning.
"I can understand the people of the Indian Springs subdivision. We have some real serious problems with those apartments nearby," Councilman Richard Rosebrock said. "We've had some real problems with that area in general so I can understand why they don't want apartments to be built and add to the situation we got there right now."
Dorchester County Council tabled the decision.
"What is the solution? Is there a solution that is going to work? I haven't heard one that we can all work with," Councilman Bill Hearn said during the meeting.

As a resident of Indian Springs, I could handle a business over multi-family homes any day.

Hi i was just looking at a website and saw that you live in the Indian springs subdivision I am not sure if you still live there , but if you still do my wife and myself are looking at a house to buy there and are just trying to find out some info about the neighborohood , like - Crime , HOA ect.
Thanks for what ever you cant tell me.

I would say a playground, but it is on a 50MPH highway!! I think a quiet 9 to 5 business would be best.

As a resident of Indian Springs, I would like to see a Sheriffs Office put there. Then maybe I wouldn't have to keep buying things to replace whatever gets stolen.

I agree about the crime in the area. All of my kids have and some are attending SHS. The crime around the school is horrible and never gets any better. Shootings, drug deals, robberies. I would rather see nothing there, rather than more of the same. It would be nice if the other apartments could be shutdown. I'm surprised that there isn't more outrage over the violent crime around the highschool bearing the towns name. Our kids deserve better.

Leave it the way it is and revisit the idea of putting something there when a) the crime gets better and b) when we actually need something there. There are plenty of apartments and houses sitting empty as well as businesses not doing so well. Not every square inch of Summerville needs to be developed. Wait until there IS a need.

I agree there should be no more apartments put there. It is a shame that some one can't clean up the ones that are there now.
A nice eating place would be nice, not fast food.
