DESCRIPTION:Summerville citizens\, business and civic organizations\, fai
 th groups\, and Mayor Bill Collins are linking arms in an organized effo
 rt to improve the community and serve those in need.&nbsp\; Summerville 
 Cares Day of Service will kick off on April 21\, 8 a.m. at Azalea Park a
 nd volunteers will fan out to complete service projects until noon.&nbsp

 iting event. &nbsp\;&nbsp\;\nOver 300 residents have signed up already t
 o tackle 28 projects on April 21\, 2012 in a volunteerism effort of unpr
 ecedented scope in Summerville.&nbsp\; The projects range from installin
 g a roof and stabilizing a pond bank at Eagle Harbor Boys Ranch to paint
 ing facilities and re-landscaping the Francis Willis SPCA\, the shelter 
 that protects animals.&nbsp\; Food drives will be conducted for Palmetto
  House and SPCA.&nbsp\; Volunteers will refresh the landscape and re-fin
 ish the theater stage at Summerville high School\, landscape the County 
 of Dorchester Library\, conduct a blood drive with American Red Cross\, 
 and provide breakfast for volunteers in a kickoff ceremony at Azalea Par
 k at 8 a.m. April 21.&nbsp\; These and other projects are intended to im
 prove the community and help those in need in this difficulty economic c
 limate.&nbsp\;\n&ldquo\;One of my goals is to tap into the spirit of vol
 unteerism of our residents\, many of whom see people and non-profit orga
 nizations struggling in this difficult economic climate.&nbsp\; We are l
 inking arms with businesses\, schools\, churches and citizens in this un
 precedented effort of volunteerism.&nbsp\; I am impressed by the number 
 of volunteers signed up already and by the response of sponsors in the c
 ommunity to support the volunteers as they tackle projects throughout Su
 mmerville. There is room for many more volunteers\, and I urge all who c
 an to join us in improving our community and lifting the spirits of all 
 who participate.&rdquo\; Mayor Collins said.
