Magnitude 2.3 Strikes Summerville

Minor quake shakes Summerville, Ladson area at around 8 a.m. Thursday.

That wasn't a bulldozer on Dorchester Road that caused the shaking at around 8 a.m. Thursday. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, a 2.3 magnitude earthquake shook the area near Oakbrook Shopping Center off Dorchester Road. 

The quake's epicenter was near Travellers Boulevard and Ladson Road. 

This marks the sixth quake of the new year, and third registering over 2.0 on the Richter scale. According to SCearthquakes.com, four quakes hit Summerville in 2011 and one hit the town 2010. Four Summerville quakes were recorded in 2009.
