How to Celebrate July 4th in Summerville

What are you doing to celebrate Fourth of July?

What are you doing to celebrate our nation's birthday?

Summerville offers two great ways to show off your patriotism with Red, White and Blue on the Green at Hutchinson Square Sunday, and a fireworks display at Gahagan Sports Complex Thursday. Of course, you can also celebrate at home.

Red, White and Blue on the Green

Join the the down home celebration 5-8 p.m. Sunday downtown Summerville! Red, White and Blue on the Green is a free event for the community. There will be live music, food, vendors, games, non-motorized parade, watermelon eating contest, and the Uncle Sam and Lady Liberty costume contests.

July 4th Celebration at Gahagan Sports Complex

The fireworks celebration is fun for the entire family. Bring your lawn chairs, blankets, and a picnic. The free event starts at 5 p.m. with the fireworks beginning at 9 p.m.

Gahagan Sports Complex is at 515 W. Boundary St. No alcohol, grills, pets or personal fireworks.

DIY July 4th Celebration

If you're into doing your own fireworks celebration, there are just a few things you need to know: be careful when lighting fireworks, and the Town of Summerville has an ordinance regulating fireworks.

The ordinance restricts audible fireworks between the hours of 10 a.m. and 10 p.m., except on holidays like July 4. On the Fourth of July, you can set off fireworks until midnight, according to Mayor Bill Collins.
