New Summerville-Charleston Express Route Open

Summerville's Dorchester Road Express stops at Bosch, Boeing, Joint Base Charleston and downtown Charleston.

Tired of sitting in traffic every day on your commute — watching the tank empty at idle? Let the Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority do the driving with its Dorchester Road Express route.

CARTA will service Summerville for the first time a new Park and Ride lot at Dorchester Village Shopping Center, at the corner of Dorchester and Trolley roads.

Fare is $3. An Express monthly pass is $88.

The Dorchester Road Express is the newest addition to CARTA’s Express commuter services. Express service is a limited stop service that runs Monday through Friday during peak drive times in the morning and afternoon; running from Summerville traveling into downtown Charleston.

The route has stops in North Charleston at both Bosch and Boeing; it will then continue to downtown and make four stops (same stops as current Express service):

  • Meeting Street and Columbus Street  (Piggly Wiggly Store)
  • Meeting Street and John Street (Visitor Center/Charleston Museum
  • Calhoun Street and St. Philip Street (Near College of Charleston Campus)
  • Calhoun Street Jonathan Lucas Street (Near MUSC)

Service will also provide a regular and consistent connection to the entire CARTA system for Summerville residents. The first stop in Summerville is at 5:15 a.m., and that bus will arrive in downtown Charleston at 6:05 a.m. The last bus leaving Charleston is at 7:29 p.m. and it arrives in Summerville at 8:26 p.m.
