Green Communities Make SC Debut in Summerville

Nexus EnergyHomes to build GeoSolar Community in the Sundial at River Birch; 'Green' homes expected to save homeowners money on utilities.

Maryland homebuilder Nexus EnergyHomes breaks ground this month to build the state's first GeoSolar Communities: The Sundial at River Birch in Summerville and Sunchaser at Bridlewood Farms in Ridgeville.

A GeoSolar Community offers homes with net-zero energy. In other words, homes with zero net energy consumption and zero carbon emissions annually. River Birch, near the intersection of Dorchester Road and 17-A, and Bridlewood Farms, off of Highway 27, are both existing communities.

The Sundial GeoSolar Community of River Birch will consist of 12 final phase lots featuring home designs that combine the best in net-zero energy achievable technologies under one roof, allowing the home to produce as much energy as it uses, and saving their homeowners thousands of dollars in utility bills, according to the company.

"Our desire to 'make America energy independent one home at a time' has been met with great enthusiasm by local South Carolina officials, developers and realtors. It's encouraging that the people of South Carolina share our passion and vision, and we can plan to achieve this goal — together," Nexus Senior Vice President Ann Ashley said in a press release by the company.

The River Birch GeoSolar Community includes three- to five-bedroom home plan designs. Home pricing will start from mid $300,000. Nexus also offers five Ashley River lots with high-performance building technologies.

Both communities will offer homes that feature the energy-efficient technologies of geothermal (ground-sourced) heat pumps, photovoltaic solar panels, super insulated building shells, state of the art electronic and web-based controls and monitoring systems and Energy-Star rated appliances.
