Obituary: Barbara Garland

A memorial service will be held in Gettysburg, PA at a later date and her inurnment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Gettysburg, PA at a later date.

Barbara was born on October 20, 1921 in Palmerton, PA daughter of the late George Shindel and Bertha Hatrick Shindel. Barbara graduated from University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1944 where she received her Bachelor’s Degree. She was an elementary school teacher where she taught school in Straudsburg, PA and first began her teaching career as a Kindergarten teacher in Monroe County, PA. She was avid golf player from the time she was a teenager. She was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church.

Surviving are: Two Sons: Thomas Edwin Garland of Summerville, SC and George S. Garland of Manhassett, NY; One Daughter: Jane Yates of Bethesda, MD.
