Poll: Are Terrorists Behind Needles in Airplane Food?

A criminal investigation is ongoing into the sewing needles found inside airplane food. Two of the four flights involved were headed to Atlanta.

Four days after sewing needles appeared in food served on Delta Airlines flights that originated in Amsterdam, people are still scratching their heads over how this all happened.

According to media reports, the airline said that what appear to be sewing needles were found in six sandwiches on Sunday, and that one passenger on a flight to Minneapolis was injured. Delta spokeswoman Kristin Baur said the other needles were on two flights to Atlanta and one to Seattle.

And, now Dutch authorities have joined Atlanta FBI officials in figuring out how all this happened.

The sandwiches were made in the Amsterdam kitchen of catering company Gate Gourmet and were to be served to business-class passengers on Delta flights. A company spokeswoman said they don't know how the needles got into the food.

In an article by the Minneapolis StarTribune, a leading preeminent airline security expert said it was probably disgruntled workers or pranksters, but not terrorists.

What do you think? Could it be terrorists, or just some angry or wayward person with no real intent to unleash wordly terror? Take our poll, and let us know what you think.

As a former KLM Royal Dutch Airlines executive and later a security specialist I strongly doubt that this was an act of terrorism. Schipol Airport (Amsterdam) is in my opinion one of the most secure facilities in Europe. Security was tight as a drum at least 25 years ago and has continued to be improved. In all probability, someone in the flight kitchens did not get the raise they expected and decided to "make a statement", cowardly, but a statement none the less
