Citizen Gives Deputy Lift; Suspect Nabbed

Summerville man tells deputy on foot chase to jump in his truck.

An armed robbery suspect landed behind bars July 4 after a citizen aided a deputy in a short pursuit.

According to the Dorchester County Sheriff incident report, as deputies chased the suspect on foot, a Summerville man stopped his truck and offered one of the deputies a lift.

"I didn't think about it too much, I just did it," said Ronald, who asked Patch not to use his last name. "He needed help, and they help us everyday."

He said he saw the deputy give chase but that the suspect was quickly gaining ground.

"The guy was very fast. (The deputy) was losing ground," Ronald said.

Ronald drove his truck with the deputy in the bed and followed the speedy suspect to a storage unit on Danberry Drive. There, deputies apprehended Cedrick Miller of Summerville.

According to the incident report, Miller had allegedly pulled a knife on a Cricket Wireless employee and demanded she give him money. He allegedly made off with $2,229 in cash.

At the storage unit, deputies reported finding more cash after arrested Miller.

Ronald isn't alone in his crime-stopping help. Over the last year, here are some stories where citizens have stood up to perpetrators:
