Lightning Strike Displaces Family

Red Cross reports aiding Summerville family after lightning strike to home Wednesday.

American Red Cross volunteers were called to the scene of a house fire following a lightning strike and provided assistance to a Summerville family of four, including one child, Wednesday.

The Summerville Fire Department responded to the fire, which caused a power outage to the home.

The Red Cross provided temporary housing to assist the family to meet its immediate needs.

The Red Cross has assisted 980 individuals affected by disasters, including home fires, in its seven-county region of Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper counties, since the beginning of the fiscal year on July 1, 2011.
