State Trooper Gets 5 Years for Growing Weed

Kurt Steffen of Summerville sentenced for growing marijuana plants in Ridgeville.

A U.S. District Judge has sentence a Summerville man to five years imprisonment for growing more than 300 marijuana plants, according to a story from WMBF News.

Kurt Steffen, 30, was a state trooper at the time of his 2010 arrest.

WMBF News wrote:

According to federal officials, before the grow was discovered by the Dorchester County Metro Narcotic's Unit in January 2010, the operation yielded multiple harvests of marijuana for Steffen and his co-defendants, resulting in thousands of dollars worth of profit for the group.

When deputies executed a search warrant on the (Ridgeville) property in January 2010, they found thousands of dollars worth of equipment and over 300 marijuana plants spread throughout three different structures on the property.

Suzanne, sorry for not seeing your comment until now. It wasn't a decision based on career. It was based on I had requested the image through the S.C. Highway Patrol and didn't received a response. If you'd like to see an image of Steffen, this website has it up http://www.wmbfnews.com/story/18818403/state-trooper-from-summerville-sentenced-in-marijuana-operation
