The lawsuit was filed June 29 alleging that the Dorchester County GOP had certified non-incumbent candidates that were not eligible to be on the ballot, according to two S.C. Supreme Court decisions.

The suit came on the heels of county Democrats asking Republicans to prove their paperwork had been filed correctly. The Supreme Court ruled that at the time of filing March 16-30, non-incumbent candidates must have simultaneously filed their Statements of Intention of Candidacy with their Statements of Economic Interest to the party election official. Failure to do so would result in decertification. Nearly 250 candidates were knocked off the ballot statewide due to the decision.
