Man Dressed as Obama in Pimp Costume at GOP Event Sparks Anger

Attempt at humor was found to be "discriminatory."

SUMMERVILLE, SC -- A seemingly innocuous debate viewing party in this South Carolina town took an unexpected turn on Tuesday night. The event, hosted by the GOP in Charleston, Dorchester and Berkeley Counties, was meant to be a show of support for Republican nominee Mitt Romney in his battle with Barack Obama for the White House. But during the event a man arrived wearing an Obama mask and dressed like a pimp.

He then had his picture taken in full costume with several people, including Charleston County GOP Chair and State First Vice Chair Lin Bennett. The man in the costume has not been identified.

Upon seeing the photo, some Democrats were outraged. One wrote a blog post, calling the conduct at the party “discriminatory” and “racist-leaning.”

But here's the twist. Bennett said the man in the suit is a Democrat and an Obama supporter. She told Patch that Tuesday's event was open to everyone and when the man arrived in costume, she was taken aback.

"People are so quick to call the GOP racist, when the other side does plenty of crazy stuff, too," Bennett said.

so, dave, you want to live in a plutocratic state with Marxist economics? That's what GOP is promoting...

K-DUB, Foreign aid makes up about one percent of our country's budget. Polls show that Americans think it makes about 25 percent. If the entire foreign aid budget was cut, as has been suggested by politicians like Rand Paul, it would have very little impact on our debt problem. Nevertheless, cutting foreign is very popular for the reasons you explain. Pray, tell: what racist "crazy thing" does "the other side" do? [This should be good.]
Roger Crommelin October 21, 2012 at 02:30 AM
Would it have been better if the guy showed up in a white Obama custume? It's all done in fun, let the babies cry what they want. It's time for Americans to stop being so touchy about everything, because in this case it's only for political purposes.

Is it any wonder why the south comes up near the bottom of every state ranking(jobs, wages, healthcare, education, etc)?

I find the pimp suit in very bad taste.....not sure I would go so far as to call it racist, but definitely in very bad taste. That being said, Bennett's reaction to say that this man was an Obama supporter is laughable. For one thing, how would that be known? Next thinking man's question - I get nasty remarks from my Obama bumper stickers - really racist comments in fact - don't you think the man would have been chased from the room? I would think if an Obama supporter would have came in - a big bird costume would have sent a better message. Look my Republican friends - putting the president in a pimp suit isn't funny - it's just poor taste. It sends a message of total disrespect to our President. It also gives you pretty nasty write ups and it allows the Democrats to write up all of your nasty little flaws - like your constant ethics violations, the fact that you all have been in charge of this state for decades and SC is on the bottom of education, health issues, wages, and employment. It also lets us reminds voters of your wonderful morals with ex-Gov. Sanford and current Gov Nikki Hailey (can we spell Will Folks?). So please continue your juvenile antics so we can show the good people of SC what your party really stands for - HATE.

Too bad he was actually a Demacrat Huh? Or did you not read that part before jotting down your post as fast as you could scream Raceist's
Nancy Seufert October 21, 2012 at 06:52 AM
@rw You are living proof of what a Republican controlled state does for education - here's a hint - the little red squiggly line under misspelled words and correcting them with the hints will at least make it appear that you have some intelligence.

Clark Kent October 21, 2012 at 12:48 PM
And I'm supposed to believe this guy was an Obama supporter, ANOTHER Republican lie. It was probably Lin's husband. You don't get your picture taken with "the click" unless you're in it.

Arn Tressler October 21, 2012 at 02:18 PM
If you are an American who loves their country, then you need to invest about an hour of your time and possibly a few dollars and see the movie: "2016 Obamas America." It doesn't matter what side of the aisle you are currently on; but for the sake of making the right decision for you, please see the documentary. From one American to another, Thank you.
jayne October 21, 2012 at 02:38 PM
There's that RACE card AGAIN!!!
stanley seigler October 21, 2012 at 02:39 PM
re: see the movie: "2016 Obamas America." [CLIPS] 2016: Obama’s America spends an hour and a half advocating a partially wild theory on the very fringes of the Republican Party. That it does so is irrelevant to its overall quality. Every documentary ever made is biased. From Bill Maher’s Religulous to that incredible HBO special about Larry Bird and Magic Johnson, they’re all created for a specific reason, sometimes with goals as big as denouncing religion and sometimes with goals as small as reminding us how special a rivalry was. The only thing that truly matters, at least from a job-well-done standpoint, is whether or not the final product is effective in delivering its biased message. […] Think about it for a second. This film argues the President of the United States is intentionally making decisions against America’s best interests. While not inherently impossible, an allegation like that needs a mountain of evidence […] Biased is okay. Poorly executed is not [end clips] http://www.cinemablend.com/reviews/2016-Obama-s-America-5997.html
reg October 21, 2012 at 02:39 PM
you mean that movie that says Obama is a bad president because his parents were divorced? that movie made by the guy who says he used Michael Moore as inspiration? that movie folks are claiming to be one of the most successful documentaries of all time (but that's now being sold online for $4.95)? http://shop.newsmax.com/shop/index.cfm?page=products&productid=1003&s=al&promo_code=1053C-1&gclid=CPCCyJqrkrMCFRR7nAodal8AKQ That "film" is a joke.
madeline October 21, 2012 at 02:54 PM
not as ugly as your mama
Sandy Quigley October 21, 2012 at 02:54 PM
Funny how all you GOPers are jumping Linda. The article claims the man in costume has not been identified and yet Bennett claims he's a Democrat and Obama supporter. Now why woud he attend a Romney support party? So Bennett - if you know so much, who exactly is under the mask?
c strianese October 21, 2012 at 02:54 PM
These Barack supports are unbelievable, they will do anything to try to get people not to consider his four last years of terrible governing!!
Sandy Quigley October 21, 2012 at 02:59 PM
Hey Eddie...your lack of intelligence is showing.
Nancy Seufert October 21, 2012 at 08:13 PM
Yes c strianese it so horribly bad that our president got equal pay for women passed, passed a stimulus plan that helped us out, killed bin laden, ended the war in Iraq, and passed a health care plan - all while the number one priority of the Republican Congress was to ensure our President was not re-elected (not to get us out of the mountain of debt caused by Bush). So yes, keep screaming what a horrible president Obama is and maybe one day the intelligent people will believe you.
