New Summerville-St. George Bus Route Opened

Free service for first 90 days of Tricounty Link's Dorchester Connector Commuter Bus.

Imagine commuting between St. George and Summerville without your hands on the wheel and with your eyes on your computer — reading Patch or working — over a free wi-fi connection.

Starting now, TriCounty Link will offer a new route called the Dorchester Connector that will offer six stops along Highway 78. There are two buses on the commuter route which runs hourly from 6 a.m. until 6:55 p.m. This is a rural area never served by public bus service before.

For the first 90 days, the service will be offered for free. Services began Monday and the free rides last through June 29.

According to Dorchester County Administrator Jason Ward, the county has invested $50,000 toward the new route, which went toward providing one of the buses.

TriCounty Link introduced the Commuter Solutions program beginning with three routes in 2008 and ridership increased by more than 50 percent during the first year of operation. In response to customer needs, the Link introduced two more routes in 2010 and 2011. The Dorchester Connector is the Link's sixth commuter route.
