Notes on Votes: Summerville Council April 11

Summerville Town Council met Wednesday for its regular meeting at Town Hall. 

Here are the actions taken:

  • Council unanimously voted to give second and final reading to an ordinance adopting an outdoor cafe ordinance and permit. .

  • Council unanimously voted to give first reading to an ordinance rezoning 101 W. Butternut Road from B-3 "General Business" to PL "Public Lands." This is town-owned land, which is slated for the new fire station.
  • Council unanimously voted to give first reading to an ordinance amending the historic district to include three new properties, including the Old Hospital, owned by the county. . But council discussed the issue and said they had time before a public hearing and second reading of the ordinance to talk with the county. 
  • Council voted 6-0, with Councilman Bill McIntosh abstaining, to appoint David Whittington as Chief Municipal Judge. McIntosh abstained because he works in the same office as Whittington.
