THE CITADEL — About 20 demonstrators crashed the Rick Santorum results party at the military college in Charleston.
As Santorum closed his speech focusing on building strong family values, a gay rights activist said: "Except when you're gay" and threw a handful of glitter in the air.
Members of the Occupy Charleston group joined in with chants of "Rick, Rick, Rick, bigot, bigot, bigot" and singing "Santorum, Santorum, you're a bigot." As police escorted the group out, they shouted about Jesus preaching love.
The police escorted many members of the movement off-campus and would not allow them to retreive their vehicles parked there. But there were no arrests or incidents.
Speaking to Patch, Occupier Adrianna Varedi of Charleston said the party crash was "the people of South Carolina taking a stand against" bigotted behavior against gays and blacks.
Santorum is known for his position on gay rights, in opposition to gay marriage and likening gay sex to beastiality with previous remarks.
Yes Jesus preached about love.........BUT.......the gays need to read the first chapter of Romans, in the Bible, as well........name calling is political.......and goes with the territory........so the candidate standing by the personal beliefs , to me, is a sign of strength. Accept what is shown and move on........be a bigger person than stooping to childish name calling and throwing things!
littelbigotedsparrow-no one is throwing anythign in yoru face, redneck-just mind your own business-when gays get full equality in about 5 years, youll hear nothign about gay rights again-promise
Get the government completely out of the love business and I can assure you the republic will not fall. Give them more power and it most assuredly will.
