Video of Knotts' Infamous 'Raghead' Remarks Leaked

Yet another sign that people are upset with the Lexington senator.

UPDATE (8:30 p.m. May 15, 2012): Ben Smith at BuzzFeed clarified in his post this afternoon that the source was anonymous. The story has been changed to reflect this.

ORIGINAL: As if Sen. Jake Knotts, R-Lexington, didn't already have enough trouble, exclusive video has now surfaced of his infamous "raghead" remarks on Gov. Nikki Haley, prior to her 2010 election.

Tuesday afternoon, BuzzFeed released a previously unseen video of Knotts' appearance on the Columbia online political show Pub Politics on June 3, 2010.

In the video, Lexington Sen. Jake Knotts criticizes both Barack Obama and Gov. Nikki Haley, who at the time was a house member, just days before she won the GOP nomination for governor.

During the show, Knotts was quoted as saying: “We already got one raghead in the White House. We don’t need another in the Governor’s Mansion."

Political consultant Wesley Donohue, who served as a producer for the show was surprised by the video's release.

"No one on the Pub Politics team put the video out and we have no idea who did," Donohue told Patch.

But the video's release could prove to be another sign of the growing discontentment among Knotts' political adversaries.

Blogger Will Folks also claims an argument in December 2010 may resurface in a complaint against Knotts.

According to multiple sources, Knotts is about to be sued over a December 2010 incident in which he challenged former South Carolina Republican Party official Patrick Haddon to a duel.

Folks' links to his own 2010 post, where he noted that Haddon claimed, via Facebook, that Knotts had challenged him to a duel. Folks alleges that the duel threat could get Knotts kicked out of the Statehouse, as dueling goes against the state's constitution.

He is everything that is wrong in SC politics. We are fed up with Good Ol Boys fixing everything to suit their own agendas & making SC the laughing stock of the country. Stop re-electing these embarrassments!!!!!

Time to get rid of "the good olde boy" redneck! He is a disgrace to our state. We fight to be equals every day. We do not need to have a him speaking for us! Do not judge a whole race by the feelings of one person. If everyone was as narrow minded as him, we would all be southern trailer park trash! What an embarrassment to our state and community! Think before you open your mouth!!!!!!!!!!

That's old news. Apparently YOU have an ax to grind. I'm sorry Sen. Knotts is not perfect. Maybe he is rough around the edges, and maybe he is a redneck. Maybe he is too "in your face" for you liberals, but one thing everyone knows about Sen. Knotts, whether we would vote for him again or not, is that he has always been available to help those who really needed his help. You can put your liberal spin on that all you want, and look for an exception to what I wrote. I may not personally concur with everything he says, but he is a stand up guy!

He has certainly been saying what was on his mind for a long time. This is not the first time, nor will it be the last. It's never cost him an election to this point. And without Katrina Shealy on the ballot, there's less of a chance he'll be defeated in 2012, don't you think?

He is not too in your face for me. It is called be a white supreamist. Who is he to tear down a person for their race or beleifs? If he just stated what he did not like about the person, that would be different. Instead he was insulting and attacked the race as a whole. Just because Katrina Shealy is no longer on the ballot, it does not mean that somebody else with tact and common sense will not replace knotts. The bigger they are, the harder they fall.
