Worker Dies on Dorchester Road
A 32-year-old man dies while operating a backhoe on Dorchester Road, according to Dorchester County Coroner.
Dorchester County Coroner Chris Nisbet has reported a fatality on Dorchester Road: Dewayne C. Smith, 32, of the St. George area.
According to Nisbet, at around 1 p.m. Friday near Fisher Road, Smith was picking up a sign with a backhoe when it hit the boom lever, leading him to be caught and pinned between the boom and the outriggers. The incident had no witnesses, he said.
The death remains under investigation.
