From Facebook: Joseph Rhodes writes: "I think people need to calm down. Summerville wouldn't be the first town in the country the get one. They're acting like this is some sort of experiment. It gives people a place to go to have fun. Let the police handle people that can follow the rules. That's their job." and followed up: "I moved here from Great Falls MT, a town that is 3 hrs from anywhere, and they have one of the biggest concrete skateparks in the country. Almost never any issues involving the police. Most kids that skate follow a certain etiquette at parks, taking turns and looking out for each other."

I am not sure why they are thinking traffic congestion and noise would be a problem. This park is going to be a small park. If there are problems with drugs and urination the police will take care of that but that can happen anywhere. It could happen in Azalea Park. There are so many of these parks in communities throughout the United States. I think some people have a preconceived notion that all skaters are trouble makers which is false. Yes there are some that are just like there are some football players, baseball players, etc. that are but most are not. I am not sure why this is such a big deal to some people. I am a 42 year old who still skateboards and would love to have a park in Summerville where my son and I could skate together.

Ive lived in summerville for 23 years now. I am 23 years old, I have been one of the biggest parts of the skateboarding sceen from inland skate shop to the local skateboarders in general. There is a serious problem for a town like Summerville to not have already done this. We had the brick yard, they tore it down and now it's just a field of grass near buffalo wild wings on 78. Every time I leave this town no matter where I go I can find a skatepark within a few miles of my destination regardless of the state I am in. Public urination is about the biggest croc of crap I have ever heard. Drugs... Let the police handle that, but FYI not many skateboarders are stupid enough to bring drugs to a skatepark especially around schools, etc. Noise and traffic are also about the two stupidest excuses. You are worried about noise??? Why arnt you mad about the football stadium??? I hear their band from house every friday night. Im also sure that a little skateboard park wont have more than 10 cars on a busy day after it settles down from its first few weeks of being opened. They mayor has skateboarders backs, that's all that really matters. These people who are complaining are only doing it because they are miserable and have nothing better to do. Garrett

Have a skate park, if that is really the vote, but put it where there is already activity and noise-at the parks in Gahaghan or at Doty Field

For crying out loud people, skateboarders are not hoodlums! This town has needed this for a long time..There are skate parks everywhere...for all ages! I agree with Garrett..I remember the brick yard...All you guys ever did was skate together! Public urination? Please.....drugs...noise...it's already at a park....don't we have more important issues around here to deal with?? Oh..I don't mind hearing the band practice DAILY...makes me happy our youth is active!! Open your minds people...and your hearts!

Are they seriously concerned about the noise and traffic. The complainies are obviously blind to the fact that they live next to two schools, a football stadium and the Berlin G expressway. Noise and traffic really. Drug activity happens anywhere an addict can get away it. I have witnessed it my self at Gahagan and Doty parks. Is there going to be a town meeting to close those parks, i don't think so. Would it hurt the police to get out of their cars and walk the parks. Every social and ethnic group has there share of bad apples. Condemning this park before it is ever built because of what you think a skateboarder is or isn't, is dicrimination. I beleave these people want the park bad enough to keep it clean and under controll. 9

Come on folks. Let's get real. Most towns around us have skateparks. Drugs and urination is a bunch of crap. I have been to many skateparks all over the country alone and with my 6 adult kids, who by the way have been skateboarding from preteens into adulthood. I am 70 years old and gave up skate boarding a little over 10-12 years ago. I owned as many as 4 boards, includiing longboards. In all my years I have never seen a problem come up. Some parks even have a porta-potty. Skateboarding is a great wholesome excercise, keeps the kids out of trouble, and besides that it is fun too. Been there done that. Pastor Kaye Those who complain are the same folks who complain about the kids using the church rails and sidwakes and curbs. Get off it. Find something else to complain about. And get of that "Not in my neighborhood",Song and dance.

My 11 year old loves to skate board and there needs to be a place available to do it! If you want skateboarders off the side walk and shopping centers give them a place to go and have fun! Greenville has one and so do most of the bigger Atlanta suburbs. They are fun, clean and a great place for some much needed outdoor fun! And no skaters are not "hoodlums". Though I am sure in every sport or activity there are a few bad apples. My son is a trustworthy, rule following, responsible kid and he happens to also be a thrill seeker :) Please build and we will come :) Our town needs to add some more fun!
