DREAM-ing Up 'A Christmas Carol'

Storytelling tour of Charles Dickens' famous Christmas tale during Third Thursday.

Have you noticed Jacob Marley's tombstone in ? Sure Halloween is over, but now it will play a part during this week's Third Thursday event, which celebrates the coming Christmas holiday.

Summerville DREAM (Downtown Restoration, Enhancement and Management) launches the holiday season with a special open house and a story-telling of “A Christmas Carol” done by professional story teller Tim Lowry.

While attending Third Thursday is always free, the story-telling tour is $10. Tours are limited to 40 people and there will be two tours (5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m.). 

The hour-long story will unfold throughout historic downtown. Lowry will perform this ghostly tale in the style of author Charles Dickens, using costumes, voices and audience participation.

Lowry will lead tour groups through the streets of downtown Summerville, stopping at local banks, shops, and churches that will serve as the setting for different sections of the story. The storytelling tour will be complemented by costumed actors portraying the people of London during the time of  Dickens and his most beloved (though at first, scorned) character Ebenezer Scrooge provided by The Vintage Affair Ensemble for the Dickens Night. Tickets are available for purchase at the Summerville DREAM office on the second floor of the First Citizens Bank building at 218 S. Main St. Tickets may also be purchased by phone at 821-7260 with a credit card.
