Heartbreaker: Lexington Falls to Ashley Ridge

The Wildcats' emotional quest for a state 4A championship ends. A triumphant Ashley Ridge will now face Byrnes High for the state crown.

The Lexington Wildcats' dream of a state 4A baseball crown ended Friday night with a 2-1 loss to Ashley Ridge in the Lower State championship. Despite trailing nearly the entire game 1-0, the Swamp Foxes tied the game in the final stanza, sending the game into extra innings. Ashley Ridge finally won at the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded. Lexington now goes home, and the Swamp Foxes will travel from their home in Summerville to take on the Byrnes High School Rebels next week for the state championship in a best 2-of-3 series. Despite the loss, and the end of an incredible playoff run that the Wildcats had dedicated to 13-year-old Kennedy Branham, who is battling cancer, the season was nonetheless phenomenal for…

I would say they are all true champions! They displayed emotional support to Kennedy and her family. Worked hard to turn the team around. And they did it for all the right reasons. Each one has a heart of Gold! Priceless! The title they would of received was just an added bonus. Thank You for representing Lexington . You all are the best in our eyes and hearts..   more ›

NASCAR Nation Targeted for Voter Registration

American Majority is hoping to get NASCAR fans racing to the polls in November.

Every election, some political consultant comes up with a pithy way to describe a specific segment of voters that can supposedly sway the vote. Sometimes, the target is soccer moms. Sometimes, it's NASCAR dads (a Slate.com article from the 2008 election compiles a nice list of them). With somewhere around 75 million NASCAR fans, NASCAR Nation could conceivably turn the tide of an election if they voted as a group. American Majority, a 501(c)3 organization that trains conservative grassroots activists, is hoping to harness that huge audience (starting at the Darlington Raceway in the South Carolina Pee Dee this weekend) to help elect conservatives across the country. The organization is sponsoring NASCAR Nationwide Series driver Randy …

I love how much they openly attempt to mislead, like the "we stand for liberty and free markets" example in this case. They want people to think they stand for personal freedom, when all they're really interested in is freedom of companies to oppress and take away any hopes of personal freedom. "So what if a totally free market will cost you your job and property and all possible hope for your …   more ›

Wildcats Advance to Lower State Championship

With Kennedy Branham in attendance, Lexington topped White Knoll on Thursday to stay alive in its quest for a state baseball crown. Wildcats are now primed for a rematch against Ashley Ridge on Friday night.

With their young muse, Kennedy Branham, in attendance, the state's top-ranked Lexington Wildcats knocked off arch-rival White Knoll on Thursday night in an elimination game to advance to the Class 4A Lower State baseball championship. Riding strong pitching from A.J. Hart, timely hitting, and nearly error-free ball, the Wildcats won 5-1 over the Timberwolves in front of a capacity crowd at their county rival's home field. "I think we got five hits apiece, but we got the ones when it mattered," Lexington Coach Brian Hucks said after the game to WLXM-FM radio. In the win, the Wildcat's avoided elimination in their quest for the state crown -- a championship run they have dedicated to Kennedy, a 13-year-old Lexington middle-schooler who is …
