Ed Carter's campaign announces win for Republican nomination of S.C. House District 97.
Ed Carter, current chair of the Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce, has announced victory in the Republican race for S.C. House District 97 seat. According to his campaign, he has defeated Jordan Bryngelson, who vied to earn his party's first nomination toward political office. Carter will go on to face Democratic incumbent Rep. Patsy Knight for S.C. House District 97 in the fall. Carter's campaign battled trying to ditch the past leading up to the primary. Carter had previously run for this very seat as a Democrat in 2000, and had also retired from the U.S. Air Force 20 years ago following an allegation of sexual harassment. House District 97 candidate Jordan Bryngelson receives endorsement from conservative PAC.
House District 97 candidate Jordan Bryngelson's campaign has announced a key endorsement from South Carolina Club for Growth, a conservative group that uses PAC money to support state house and senate candidates. In the 2010 election cycle, eight out of 10 primary candidates endorsed by the organization won their primary election race, according to South Carolina Club for Growth. Republican voters got a second chance to see S.C. House District 97 Republican candidates debate the issues Tuesday. The forum by Greater Summerville/Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce and Summerville Journal Scene was originally designed to include multiple race debates, but the only showdown of the night was for S.C. House District 97, featuring opponents Jordan Bryngelson and Ed Carter, both hoping to challenge Democratic incumbent Patsy Knight in the fall. An "off-color comment" reported 20 years ago has reared its head in the S.C. House District 97 race. Candidate Ed Carter, responding to the 1992 Stars and Stripes story about an allegeded sexual harassing comment that led to the relieve of his command at a Korean Air Force Base, said it was "political correctness run amok." Neither Carter, nor the article reporting the fallout, detail exactly what was said. The old conservative-liberal distinction once served the purpose of identifying if a candidate preferred market solutions to problems or government solutions to problems. Since all politicians now see government as the only solution, it is a moot point. Conservative has reduced down to a series of statements that include terms like "cut taxes" and "family values", whatever those terms mean. more ›
