It was so interesting being at a Republican debate. Not much diversity in the audience. The candidates did not discuss at all solving any problems, just reducing our state government's budget. Thank God District 97 has a Democrat to represent the people and who supports public education (and not giving public moneys or tax credits to wealth people sending their children to private schools). Patsy Knight also supports building industrial parks in uppder Dorchester County (and is doing so with the support of Democrat Joseph Jefferson) -- that is how we are going to bring jobs to Upper Dorchester County -- good infrastructure and educated work force. Thus even you Republicans should vote to re-elect Patsy Knight in December for House District 97.

I am not here to argue Agenda 21, just that it is crazy to think that the Berekley-Dorchester-Charleston Planning Agency has anything to do with "Agenda 21". It is just good sense for the three counties to work together to plan smartly. When I use "smart growth", that is exactly what I mean, and it has not a darn thing to do with Agenda 21 or the UN. It has to do with us local citizens working together to make sure that when we grow, which we are, that we have adequate roads, water, sewers, schools and parks. Period!

According to the highly-respected Center for Budget and Policy Priorities in Washington, South Carolina Republicans have cut per-pupil spending from 2008 to 2012 by a whopping 24.1%. This is the biggest funding decrease of any of the 50 states.
Teachers have been particularly hard hit. Thousands of teachers have been fired; for those that were left, there was a pay freeze in 2010 and 2011. Three years in a row they were furloughed for as long as five days.
Last year, as the economy picked up, state revenues increased an unexpected $210 million. None of this went to restore teachers’ salaries. When the legislature came back into session in January, there was an extra $1 billion in new revenue, and Gov. Haley wanted none of this to go to teachers, either. Instead, she proposed to actually cut education another $76 million. In fact, the base-student cost that Gov. Haley proposed in her 2012 budget was equal to 1998 levels – rolling back funding for 13 years.
Recently, BECAUSE OF DEMOCRATS, the House Ways and Means Committee agreed to offer a 2% pay increase, and some Democrats have promised to fight to add additional funding when the budget bill gets to the House floor.
Electing Democrats make a huge difference -- Education is job 1!!! Democrats believe in and supports strong public education in South Carolina!!!! Electing Democrats is a WINNING strategy if you believe in strong public education!!!

No -- I believe in the elective process -- and for this state to have strong public education and thrive we need to elect more Democrats.

Why don't state Republican leaders support Haley? Why are they always overriding her vetoes?

Thank you REG -- this proves my point-- he is taking money from New York rich people because he is doing their agenda. We need legislators in Columbia that support strong public education and schools. And that means getting in their community and getting the parents involved, funding the schools properly, and giving our children the best chance -- it is our future.

Rich people have all the power, even to lower fines. She is a multiple offender, and they should have stuck with the more appropriate higher fine.

This is a horrible bill, and Chris Murphy and all who voted for this should be held accountable. It takes funds away from our budget -- i.e. public schools, and gives a tax break for the rich who send their children to private schools. It is not enough to allow middle class citizens to send their children to private schools, so their is no "choice" about this bill. It is a transfer of money from the Middle Class to the Rich!!!! Where is Robin Hood when you need him!
